A common bit of good advice is to learn from what works. So whenever I come across a great salesletter, I try to take something away: a cleaner layout, better use of graphics, and especially great copy. Like many of you, I keep a swipe-file open to save good copy when I come across it.
While a great salespage can be invaluably instructive, there is also a lot to be learned from BAD salespages.
Sometimes it’s as simple as seeing how difficult it is to read a certain typeface or point size, or realizing that what may sound like a good idea doesn’t necessarily translate on screen the way you might think.
I came across a pretty bad salesletter today - (NOT an affiliate link) http://www.money.24hourearner.com/ care of an email promotion from an otherwise respectable marketer.
There is a lot about this particular salespage that can be instructional, but the two things that initially caught my attention were these:
Ebox (or ecover) graphics
This one shows a Lamborghini under the heading “Make $3500 in 30 Days from $40!” - I found myself dismissing the product before even reading the copy. I mean really, a Lamborghini, next to a pile of cash, on a tropical island… for the $3500 I’m promised? We’re used to seeing these mega-income-claim images, but at least there isn’t a blatant disconnect if you’re touting “Unlimited Income!”…
Typo’s & grammar
“…within 30 days of its implementation, money will be flowing from your Paypal account.” Actually, money will be flowing from your Paypal account even sooner if you buy this thing. I don’t know whether this was a typo (”from” instead of “to“), or a grammatical slip.
The take-away here is not to bash that particular product, but rather to point out that even the best product in the world will not reach it’s potential without a well-produced salesletter, and that means paying as much attention to what NOT to do as what TO do.

Great post. Sometimes I really wonder if people are SERIOUS when they make this stuff. I honestly can’t see how they are. I guess some people just have poor taste.

What’s worse is these same people gripe and can’t understand why they aren’t doing so much better than they are!
Thanks for stopping by-

Hi, interesting post.
I recently launched my new site too, and I’ve been studying the analytics, bad news…
My visitors spend an average time of less then 20 seconds on my website (it’s a one page sales letter site)
So, I’m wondering if you could take a look at my website/sales letter and give me some pointers.
My website is at http://www.gimmeweightlossnow.com
Thanks in advance
