Melanies Tips #14 - How To Make Money!

August 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Yup, Melanies Tips #14! Before you ask, no - there was no #13. Since there were a few emails that were not numbered because they were more on the order of announcements, this would actually be #17, but it’s not. Ok, so last time I had the # wrong I got 53 emails asking if I could send the ones they ‘missed’. Sorry about that. It was really late at night and I messed up. But this time it’s on purpose. Just like buildings don’t have a 13th floor on purpose.

Ok, How To Make Money! It’s simple, really - you sell stuff to people who want to buy it. Thats the ‘The Secret’. We make money by referring or recommending stuff to the people who want to buy it. Either our own products - Internet Marketing; or someone else’s products - Affiliate Marketing. The trick then is matching the ‘right’ products to the ‘right’ people. Everything else is just the mechanics. We create sites and landing pages to position the products. We write ads to attract the buyers.

The reason I’m re-stating the obvious is that it isn’t always so obvious. What products do we chose to offer? How do we identify and attract the buyers? These are the real questions behind niche research. The wrong answers cost us our business. So how DO we go about deciding what to sell and how to position it?

I recently came across a video by John Reese, the guru’s guru. John Reese was the first person to ever have a million dollar day online. Thats right, a million dollar day. He created and engineered an offer that had $1million in sales in one day. It’s only been done a few times since, and he’s been a part of most of them. It pays to listen to what he says, closely. Here’s a link to the video:

This is John Reese’s blog, income.com. It’s one of my most valued marketing resources. He has a bunch more videos from the same conference posted; each one is worth it’s weight in gold!

Quick Tip: Keyword Research

I have always said keyword research is one of the most important steps to successful affiliate marketing. Whether you are doing search engine marketing (PPC), review sites, ecommerce - good keyword research will get you qualified clicks and good SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) placement. Most of us are familiar with the ‘traditional’ keyword tools like Overture, Wordtracker, Google’s keyword tool. But if everyone uses the same keyword tool, everyone will end up targeting the same keyword list. One of the biggest challenges is finding those ‘lateral’ keyword phrases that may not be obvious to us, but is what a user is typing into the search engine.

I was recently turned on to a very interesting, unique keyword tool that may offer a ‘Holy Grail’ of sorts - or at least another arrow in the quiver - the lateral keyword phrases that aren’t obvious to us unless we are intimately familiar with the niche.

The tool is KwMap “A keyword map of the whole Internet”. It’s located at: http://www.kwmap.com/. Supposedly it follows Internet “conversations” - whatever those might be - and creates a DNA-like graphical ‘map’ of keywords. So “credit cards” leads to “credit card debt” which leads to “credit card application” which leads to “secured credit card”… you get the picture. And that was one of four related but lateral ’strands’ branching off the main keyword.

If it works the way it suggests, it may be a really good way to find those ‘lateral’ keyword phrases that would naturally follow from a keyword seed! I plan to play with it some more; check it out and let me know what you think.

UPDATE: Most of you know that I don’t promote anything I don’t either use myself, or know enough to recommend. And many of you know that I if you buy something I’m promoting, I send you a ‘bonus package’, and that I try to create ‘bonus packages’ that have real value, and are geared towards what you bought and what you do. Well, I’ve been putting together some terrific new bonuses, and I decided to take one or two things from each bonus package and give it to you. No cost, no obligation, no strings. Just a ‘thanks’ for reading my newsletter.

    Hi Melanie.

Thank you for the KW site tip.
Went there … and it looks like - yes - like two strands of pure KW DNA =).

And I totally agree with you.
The trick is matching the right products to the right people.
It IS as important as KW research itself.
Do they say … “know your customer well”?

The initial KW foundation research seems to be the key to a steady start.

Bet there are some other interesting research tools off the beaten path ;).
