Malware Protection
This past weekend, I nearly had a heart attack! My machine froze, and a moment later some cryptic dialog box popped up - in the space of about a quarter-second, all of these thoughts went through my head: What the heck? Oh no, I didn’t save that document! I haven’t backed up this machine in AGES! Damn machine! OMG, if I lose my hard drive, I’m DONE!…

Now, I run Zone Alarm Pro, which is a pretty strong anti-virus program. Even still, “things” get on my machine, and it’s usually when it’s already too late that I look to do something about it. Well, even with a ZoneAlarm update and new scan, I was still having problems. That’s when I remembered AdAware.

AdAware is a super-friendly, easy ‘malware’ remover - and to my amazement, it found ooodles of malicious code on my machine, stuff the AntiVirus programs didn’t catch! Fortunately, it cleaned my machine before any real damage was done.

I’m not going to lecture you - few of us make back-ups and malicious software is a fact of online life. Do yourselves a favor: as soon as you finish this email, download the free version of AdAware, do a ‘deep scan’, and use then set it up to automatically clean your machine at least once a week. I have mine (now!) set to run Sunday’s at 4am. Please, do this.

Cool Tools
Our friend, Srijit Sreekumar - the same Srijit who created the GTrends program we told you about last email, has developed a terrific application called ClickBank Analyzer; this nifty tool will help you sort through Clickbank’s bazillion offers to find the best ones, keep you updated on them, and a whole lot of other really helpful features. Yahoo’s New Ad Generator
Yahoo recently added a new feature to it’s Yahoo Search Marketing PPC engine, Yahoo Ad Generator. The idea is that you can rapidly build multiple ads for split-testing, or just to see different copy combinations. Here’s how the Ad Generator works: first you enter a set of titles and short sentences. The Ad Generator automatically combines various permutations of short sentences and
titles to form candidate ads.

Ad Generator then saves the candidate ads in a “pending” area–outside of the ad group–where you can view and remove candidates you don’t like. Ad optimization functionality then moves the remaining candidate ads into your ad group, where it compares ad performance–it keeps the ads that perform the best and deletes the others. Over the next few days or weeks, ad optimization continually tests your candidate ads and keeps the best performing ads for your ad group.

QUICK TIP: copy your Google Adwords ads into Yahoo (see Keyword Tracking - Affiliate Radar below). Use Yahoo Ad Generator to build out multiple ads, let Yahoo test and optimize them, then move them back into Google. And MSN while you’re at it!

Every PPC campaign starts out with keywords that lose money. If you are good, or lucky, or probably a bit of both, you also have keywords that make money. Most campaigns have a small number of keywords responsible for the majority of it’s success. These are the keywords that convert to sales and create a positive ROI. Then there are all the other keywords that cost money, and don’t convert well, or at all. And without tracking each individual keyword, there just isn’t any way to know which are which. Keyword tracking lets you identify which keywords are making money, and which aren’t. You keep the winners, ditch the losers, and your ROI goes up. Simple as that.

If you are not using keyword tracking, you are navigating without a map. If you aren’t losing money, you certainly aren’t making as much as you can. Some of you may recall a piece I did about Affiliate Radar; well, with some recent additions to the program, I’m going to make a bold statement: if you aren’t using Affiliate Radar, you are losing money. At least you re making less than you could be.

Like I said, a bold statement, but it’s almost certainly true.
