Most Creative Squeeze Page Ever?

MousetrapA “squeeze page”, or “name squeeze page” is a web page designed for one thing: get the visitor to provide their name & email address, hence the name. As the marketplace evolves and people become more resistant to the “same old” marketing ploys, getting visitors to stick around for a few moments, let alone provide personal info is getting harder and harder. More and more, it becomes increasingly necessary to think “outside the box”. With more and more people selling on price, differenciation is a necessity. And the key to differenciation is creativity.

Rather than write a long monologue on being creative, I’ll just point you to a site employing “extreme creativity” (and keep in mind, this page is really nothing more than a squeeze page - a PR6 squeeze page!).

Many of us remember the game “Mousetrap” fondly. For those of you who don’t, this was a kids game where you build this Rube Goldberg-like contraption, piece by piece. At the end of the game, this contraption is activated, setting into motion a series of fascinating push, pull, bang, wind, spin, and fall actions, resulting in a cage falling, trapping a mouse (hence the title).

There is very little point to the game other than building this thing in order to set it off and watch it operation. Yet it absolutely fascinated everyone - adults included - who saw it.

The website sells fairly ordinary items, the sort of thing bound to have much competition, downward pricing pressure, and difficulty attracting visitors. They have put in a lot of work and/or money on this thing, BUT, do you think they get a little more than their fair share of traffic? See for yourself (note: the site is in German, but as you’ll see, thats entirely besides the point): HEMA ONLINE (hint - watch the blue cup on the upper right).
